Sri Lanka November to December 2017

We had a wonderful experience in Sri Lanka. Started from Negombo on the west side, headed south and hugged the coast stopping at Hikkaduwa, Galle, Weligama, and Marissa until we reached Aragum Bay on the east. From there we cut inland to Wellawaya, then onwards to Haputale. Moving forward we headed north to Kandy, then further north to Dambulla and Anuradhapura.

Negombo Highlights

Avenra Beach, Hikkaduwa

The (2004) Tsunami coast (which includes Galle).

They lost some 40,000 people in that one disaster. We spoke with a young fisherman in Negombo who told us some have predicted another big one for December 31st this year. That sort of information can keep you awake at night. We’re really enjoying this place (having begun to acclimatise to the high humidity and heat). Some really romantic, picturesque beaches, food we love and affordable everything. After exploring Galle and the surrounding areas we’ll head ‘up-country’. Ooh, the tea is great too.

Our luggage for a month

Our baggage for the 28 days – and still we won’t use it all?

  1. Lovely, thanks JCW. Did you know that your favourite chef has visited Sri Lanka? He ate 6 or 7 different styles of curry and commented on them. That tsunami was incredibly awful. I listened to the news as it was happening – the scale of it beggared belief!
